Hermanus: A Historical Overview
The town of Hermanus, originally known as Hermanuspietersfontein, was founded in the early 1800s. A traveling teacher named Hermanus Pieters stumbled upon this area while searching for better grazing for his livestock.

The discovery of a fresh spring and excellent pastures led him to establish a campsite that would eventually become the town we know today.
Renowned for its land-based whale watching and picturesque landscapes, Hermanus has grown from a quaint fishing village into a vibrant holiday destination. It retains its old-world charm while offering a range of activities and amenities for modern travelers.
